Vanessa Roland | President

My family joined SPARK in October of 2015 when we moved back to my hometown, Cincinnati, from San Francisco. We were so happy to find such an inclusive and supportive community to fulfill our dreams of unschooling. We moved back here to be closer to family and have a better work/life balance to support involvement in our children's self-directed learning.

I have two children, 4 and 7 years old, who thrive in the mixed age, follow your passion environment at SPARK. I try my best to learn and grow with the kids while they inspire me to stay present, playful and curious in life. Along with being a homeschooler/homemaker, I am a freelance graphic designer which I do part-time from home. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, wildcrafting, traveling and going on nature adventures. I am honored to have such an integral role in the cultivation of SPARK.

I am a mom to two boys, ages 3 & 7. Our family joined spark last year, in 2017. I fell in love with the supportive community, the opportunity to learn through play, and the ability for my kids to follow their passions and interests.

In addition to being a homeschooler, I work as a nurse practitioner in palliative care and hospice, helping patients with serious illness navigate their healthcare choices and providing support. I enjoy practicing yoga and being outdoors as much as possible.

Ever since I had children, I've been on the hunt for a place that we would all feel welcome and loved, for being exactly who we are. This place that I envisioned for an education for my children would actually come to fruition. SPARK is that for my family. My children's ideas are heard and their interests nourished. We have a community unlike any that I've ever imagined. SPARK has a unique way of being inclusive and we love the diversity of ideas that come to life. I have two children, almost 4 and 6, who LOVE coming to SPARK. I am excited for what the future holds for SPARK and thrilled to play a part in it's growth and evolution.

I am a mom to three great kids. I enjoy sewing and making art of all kinds. I work from home as a medical biller and this gives me the perfect opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with my family.

When I was 11 yrs old, my mom began homeschooling my sisters and I. She began my homeschooling journey and laid the foundation for me to be a free and creative learner. I have never doubted my education and always hoped I could do the same for my children. Homeschooling has evolved greatly since then. Now we have amazing support and enrichment from communities like SPARK to help us meet our children’s needs and wants. As a mom who is crazy about her family, I enjoy us learning and growing together. We value and deeply appreciate being together and SPARK helps us do that.

I'm a mama to 3 kiddos ages 6.5, 5, and 3.  I'm an engineer by training and at heart.  Now that I'm emerging from the fog of a house full of babies, I'm re-falling in love with reading, creating, and spending time with friends.  One of my favorite things about SPARK is connecting with other inclusive, homeschooling parents.

2018-2019 will be my family's 4th year at SPARK and I feel like I've watched my children grow up in this community.  The beautiful space and myriad of inspiring offerings are amazing, but they can't top the friendships my kids and myself have made here.
